president bush's firmness and commitment seemed like a strength to many after the apparent wavering of bill clinton, but now bush's inflexibility appears to be a liability. i think he's a man of few ideas who sticks to them long after the need for change has been established. he's got three more years to run this country into the ground. what we need is someone to appear with better ideas. with any ideas. the left needs to find a voice, and a vision, and soon. now.

got jesus?
how wrong is dean when he says the republicans are the party of white christians? and why did we elect a man who clearly does not believe in the separation of church and state, as set out in the united states constitution?

prevent hiv and stop being a fucking hypocrite
this should help a chronic problem, but the article makes a good point. many women don't have a choice in sex, and can't refuse or negotiate condom use (or don't have access to condoms, or don't even know about them). i'd say women with access to and knowledge about using condoms are less likely to contract hiv, and so they should be taught how to use them, but the bush regime apparently thinks otherwise. it prefers to think all sex is consensual and it's a simple choice of having sex or not (even in a world where rape is used as a military tactic, is used to demoralise the enemy, to hit him where it really hurts). thus, we can abstain from sex until we're ready to have children, and i guess he thinks we should only have sex to have children. i guess that means he's not getting laid. if he's using birth control then he's a bigger hypocrite than i thought. well, no, not really. i think he's an evil fucking bastard. but really, if you don't help women protect themselves you don't count for much yourself.

both parties are wrong
i'll admit dean can be an idiot at times, but i don't see much in the way of compromise from the republicans. i'm not convinced they haven't been hijacked by conservative mostly white judeo-christians. i think they're pandering to their socially conservative base, and that's causing them to lead the party, and as the majority party thus also the country, in the wrong direction for america. this is what happens when you value personal power over national greatness. at the same time, i think the democrats have veered too far left with their economic policies. we've got to dump protectionism, we've got to open up to free trade. we've got to reform taxes, but in a way that eases the burden on the working class and taxes more from those who can afford it. we also have to stop cutting funding to social programs that help the disadvantaged. bush's 'compassionate conservatism' is a crock of shit as far as policy is concerned. for all his words, he's done nothing compassionate in his life. he's killed and tortured and impoverished and neglected people, but he hasn't done much to help anyone but his wealthy supporters.
i think bush should get behind the mccain-kennedy migrant worker bill (whatever it's actually called) and push that through congress. screw the racist xenophobic social conservatives who want to keep out foreigners. screw the labor unions who wouldn't pick blueberries for minimum wage, much less whatever the farmers pay illegal immigrants. there are jobs that need to be done, and can be done cheaply. if companies had to get a regular american citizen to do those jobs, they'd have to pay much more than they do now. that would be expensive, so they'd have to raise prices to afford it. then the cost of living would rise, and inflation would grow, and you really wouldn't be any better off than you are now.

how to undermine faith in government
there is hope. the tide is at last turning. people are figuring out that our country is run by liars and thieves. but will we stop them?

kill everyone before they kill everyone else
a horrible epidemic is growing, but the bush administration's public health policy runs counter to proven efforts to reduce transmission of this disease. bush withholds money from any organization promoting any sex education other than abstinence, which of course includes groups that hand out condoms or counsel about abortion. yet, the promotion of safe sex has proven to be more effective in controlling the spread of hiv and aids than any abstinence program. what does this mean?
it means george bush wants poor people to die, and rich people to get wealthy off their deaths. eliminate class differences by eliminating the classes: kill the poor.
which, of course, is just as effective and sensible as killing the rich. so either we must have full-on class warfare, or we must have a tolerant egalitarian society. i say, so long as the rich are busy raping and killing the poor, the poor have a right, an obligation, to respond in kind.

right-wing pressure groups are disgusting
the christian right is offensive and tasteless. no, i won't make apologies for posting links without a contextual rant. i think my point is made. if you don't get it, then read more, understand my view, and figure it out. if you can't do that, what the hell are you doing reading this anyway?
